The Non Habitual Resident status (NHR) is a special tax regime that offers personal income tax (IRS) reductions to new foreign residents, or Portuguese citizens who have been emigrated for more than 5 years, on income from skilled labor, liabilities, and pensions.

 

Benefits

  • Exemption from taxation in Portugal of income from foreign sources, resulting from dependent work or pensions.
  • The taxation at the rate of 20% of income obtained in Portugal, arising from value added activities.
  • Concession of the benefit for a period of 10 years.
